Thank You to all the fantastic volunteers last Saturday (29.3.25) and throughout the week, at Rowlands Dell with yet another brilliant outcome in which we were able to:
- Successfully obtained a further £3200 from a nationwide NHS social value fund to (1) complete the new porous resin bound path (replacing the woodchip) making it more accessible for those with disability or prams (2) complete the dry waterfall feature with water effect blue resin. The social value team based in London were so impressed with the use of the previous £80,000 investment in November that created a myriad of accessible hard landscaping features, that they were keen to support our application to our immense delight on behalf of the community. Work will be starting on the week commencing 7.4.25.
- Litter picked and emptied three bins.
- Watered new Tree Council Grant funded Yew tree (225) hedge with kind water support from our neighbour.
- Gratefully transplanted countless huge stunning shrub and fruit tree donations from local residents – Gemma, Jean, Wally, Marion, Jill, Hayley, Nikki, Ruth, Joan and Alison.
- Utilised mountains of twig and leaf debris to create half a dozen piles for wildlife.
- Planted 450 small, Hawthorn, Wild Cherry, Oak, Rowan, Silver Birch, Grey Willow, in our holding areas for woodland later in the year, elsewhere.
It was another great team effort by our volunteers. A massive thank you to:
Diane, Ken, Joan (pictured) and Colin and Frank (not pictured), and our amazing Jill who worked solo during the week.
Final thanks to everyone on here or Dell visitors who continue to be incredibly motivational with kind compliments or simply enjoying this new beauty spot at the heart of our community.
Background.
This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 266 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris. In the two months of Stage II, that was completed in November, with our NHS landowner partners (expertly installed by subcontractors – PR England Landscapers) using a health and wellness grant fund (representing Maghull’s largest green investment) have installed an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations to provide accessibility for the whole community (accessible path, viewing/picnic area, sunken garden, bins, 10,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points, bug and bird boxes, and a dry waterfall feature). We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help.
Best Wishes,
