Our community has responded with immense kindness and resilience following the disastrous fire at the Maghull Town Hall on Saturday, 1 February 2025, which will most likely result in its closure for most of the year.
The town hall is normally a busy centre for countless activities and meetings, used by statutory and voluntary organisations. However, Maghull has incredibly risen to the challenge with spontaneous and generous offers of accommodation support, whilst the council officers have shown incredible resilience and dedication.
The small council team’s resilience and dedication has been shown by:
- finding and adapting to new accommodation in the Parish Hall,
- providing a seamless continuity of service
- diligently evaluating the current damage prior to planning a resolution.
- their dedicated team have gone above and beyond to overcome the unexpected challenges.

The community’s response has been phenomenal.
- Parkhaven Trust and the Hare & Hounds Pub provided ourselves – The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) with a free official postal address and a free meeting venue respectively. We had our two monthly meeting (2.4.25) at the pub where Colin (landlord – Pictured starting in 2022) and his team could not have been more friendly and hospitable. We had a delicious social meal before the meeting and signed several ‘executive orders’ with a pint of Guinness! Parkhaven have also been unbelievable not only providing a bond of mutual support with ourselves but provided a venue for the council meeting and a home for two other new Maghull groups.
- Deyes High School have provided a fantastic venue for the Scout group and offered opportunities for other groups.
- The magnificent Maghull Football Club provided a crucial venue continuity for the Monday afternoon Cosy Club warm space for some of our most vulnerable residents.
- Kensington House have I understand been enormously supportive to the Venue Team.
- The Parish Hall (opposite St Andrews Church) have provided a home for the town council officers.
- Maghull FC who have provided crucial continuity for the Cosy Club
- The Baptist Church who provided support to St John’s Ambulance
It has been really heartening to see how the community has pulled together and I am aware that many other offers of support have been made.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who has helped FOMD and others highlighted above but please add to the list of those we haven’t highlighted for their super kindness in challenging times.
With huge thanks to our brilliant community,
Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD)
