The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) are a small group who punch above their weight to galvanise the community to make our town a better place to live and have been nominated for a prestigious award, but because none of our achievements can be done without our community this nomination is for you. Below is part of the nomination and a letter from BBC Radio Merseyside.

FOMD were flabbergasted to win the inaugural prize in 2022 but have unbelievably doubled their community achievements since then. Nevertheless, we don’t expect a top four finish but it is simply lovely for our community to be recognised.

Consequently, we would like to convey our immense gratitude to Lynne Warham (one of the kindest members of our community) for her humbling nomination with part of her nomination submission below:

‘Since FOMD’s inception in 2019 they’ve delivered multiple impactful environmental transformations; from profound neglected antisocial grot spots to safe, accessible, engaging, tranquil and restorative biodiverse havens which have engaged our diverse community needs both in their creation and beneficial outcomes. Our community has immense affection, gratitude and desire to nominate this small group of extraordinary volunteers who have galvanised the whole community to positively improve everyone’s lives and our precious local environment’.

The awards recognise individuals and groups who make life better for people in our communities.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Our panel of judges will consider all entries and shortlist 32.

We’ll be announcing those finalists live on BBC Radio Merseyside in the summer.

Finalists will be invited to join us at a ceremony in September.
