Thank You to Maghull’s ‘University of the Third Age’ (U3A) for Donations, Warmth and Kindness.

On Tuesday (15.7.25) morning I called into the U3A at the Baptist Church to obtain some introductory leaflets for a recently bereaved neighbour and to ask if they could kindly display one of The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) donation appeal flyers. I could not believe how popular the venue was, buzzing with conversations, laughter and a countless array of subjects to pursue. Their chairperson Jane Jones could not have been more helpful and welcoming despite the huge orchestration she was facilitating.

She eloquently announced the importance of Maghull’s largest environmental project and how her members could support the crowdfunding initiative online. However, to my immense surprise many members expressed considerable interest and 11 of them unexpectedly asked if they could donate to me with cash, which amounted to £68, which I promptly transferred onto our crowdfunding website.

It was a complete joy to meet everybody and to experience their passion for improving Maghull.

As a means of an introduction to the U3A please read an article I produced for the ‘Your MAGhull’ quarterly community magazine below.

Background to Rowlands Dell.

Day This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 266 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris.

In Stage II (completed in November), with the help our NHS landowner partners we successfully obtained health and wellness grant (Maghull’s largest green investment) to fund an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations.  These features provided accessibility for the whole community and included: accessible path, viewing/picnic area, sunken garden, bins, 10,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points, bug and bird boxes, and a dry waterfall feature).

We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,

Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD)
