PJA is a UK & Australia based Transport, Planning, Engineering and Place Making Consultancy Company who whilst working locally at the new Maghull (North) Railway Station – auditing its effectiveness for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, contacted FOMD to offer support. We were delighted when Katie Harris (PJA Consultant) kindly reached out as part of their impressive social value commitment to support Maghull’s largest Green transformation project at Rowlands Dell. On the 31.10.25 they generously donated £250 towards our £15,000 targeted crowdfunding appeal to create an 85 m extension to our NHS health and wellness path and purchase 600 ferns and 1200 daffodils. Thus, enabling our towns largest ever green space volunteer project to transform a space that was subject to 30 years of profound neglect and pollution into a cherished, accessible, legacy, restorative haven for the community and wildlife. Remarkably, the ongoing transformation won the prestigious UK RHS/BBC One Show – ‘Growing Together’ Community Garden Award.

In addition, we were privileged to be joined by PJA’s Simon Telford (PJA Associate Director) who travelled a considerable distance to generously support the en masse fern and bulb planting volunteer day (8.12.25) at Rowlands Dell, which coincided with the installation of the new 50m of 85m path extension.

The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) and the wider Maghull community would like to express our immense gratitude to PJA for the warm, friendly, generous support at every level in helping to transform and create a beautiful restorative haven for the benefit of wildlife and countless people in the community.

Rowlands Dell Introduction (3min Video): https://youtu.be/lxrTdudVza8?si=AM_znsaI35Cose-M

Background to Rowlands Dell.

This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 300 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris.

In Stage II (completed in November), with the help of our NHS landowner partners we successfully obtained a health and wellness grant (Maghull’s largest green investment) to fund an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations. These features provided accessibility for the whole community and included: accessible path, viewing/picnic area, sunken garden, bins, 10,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points, bug and bird boxes, and a dry waterfall feature). A Morrisons grant has enabled us to create the ongoing bog garden and wishing well.

We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help.
