Well, Maghull is coming up trumps yet again in terms of their kindness. This week like many other weeks over the past few years we are grateful to:

  • Morrisons Donation – we are currently using an £8000 grant application from Morrisons to create two tranquil wildlife friendly water features, but on a lovely smaller scale their Community Champion – Bernice Turner spontaneously gave our big green Rowlands Dell 66 pansies (that Jill and I planted at the top of the dry waterfall – pictured) and offered a dozen unused ceramic pots that we passed on to a grateful Parkhaven Trust who will pot them up for their patients.
  • Bellway Homes Donation (currently building at Lydiate Gate near Robbins Island) whose Construction Director (Ian Hopkins – a local resident) following an impromptu meeting has generously and gratefully arranged to donate £300 towards our planting fund.
  • Paul and Harry Richards (local Tree Surgeons) continue to supply us with mountains of crucial woodchip (mulch) to help our young trees and plants maximise their growth through maintaining hydration and suppressing weeds.
  • Parkhaven Trust are renowned for their community kindness and recently (1) following a referral to FOMD provided space for an overjoyed veterans group (B – Troop!) who are establishing a Beehive Apiary with a wide variety of environmental, educational and social benefits and (2) following the fire at the town hall they have now granted our FOMD group an official postal address.
  • Sarah (Saxon Tree Services) kindly donated a large load of woodchip to B-Troop to help establish their Apiary following the clearance of their new Orchard home at Parkhaven next to the allotments.
  • Community cash plant and, comments. We continue to receive any consistent flow of cash and plant donations, and we are continually overwhelmed by nearly everybody who has something wonderfully positive to say when they walk through the Dell, which is really greatly appreciated.

Our previous one-hour session & Thanks – on Saturday (8.3.25) was yet another brilliant outcome in which we were able to:

  • Fully secured the 1500 tree guards by hammering in each cane individually.
  • Litter picked and emptied two bins.
  • Removed and transferred one of the two mountains of woodchip around the new Westway hedge, plant donations, and one of the sloping borders to suppress to suppress growth.
  • Watered 225 Yew trees.
  • Installed further large logs along the new top border pathway.

It was an incredible team effort by our volunteers and an amazing spontaneous volunteer (Chika) who was on his break from Morrisons. Thank you to: John (L), Joanne, Dave, Chika, (pictured), John (W) and Frank (not pictured). Not forgetting, Jill who has been attending throughout the week removing large amounts of debris and litter dug up when we were planting the Yew tree hedge, planting pansies, and Frank who transferred two stunningly beautiful Korean fir trees that we have been growing for several years elsewhere.

If you would like to help in our next one-hour session or donate cash or shrubs please or simply keep up to date please explore our website for donations, events, news, projects or ways to get in touch.

Please consider donating to help us continue this beautiful green centre transformation.

You can donate funds through our yellow donate button on our webpage https://www.fomd.co.uk/ or if you would like to donate plants please email admin@fomd.co.uk

We are looking for: hydrangeas, rhododendrons, ferns, hollies, heathers, azaleas, tree ferns, laurels, etc to populate the area between the new upper path and the top of the slope.
