The Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) latest project of many, at the NHS Rowlands Health and Wellness Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub) has involved Maghull’s biggest ever volunteer cleanup and green investment, but now needs donations of hundreds of woodland shrubs and shrub funding, during the dormant winter period, which is ideal for planting.
The final stage is now the most exciting which is focusing on repopulating the Dell with woodland themed plants. Although we are applying for suitable grants, we would really value a repeat your amazing support when you donated woodland shrubs and funds to enable us to populate our previous project at Woodend/Bobby’s Wood to fill Maghull’s largest (50x4m) community border with 500 shrubs.
We are looking for: hydrangeas, rhododendrons, ferns, hollies, heathers, azaleas, tree ferns, laurels, etc to populate the area between the new upper path and the top of the slope.
You can donate funds through our yellow donate button on our webpage https://www.fomd.co.uk/ or if you would like to donate plants please email admin@fomd.co.uk
Huge Thanks to:
- Thank you to new residents Ruth and Dave who donated a wide variety of shrubs from the front garden that we planted alongside the new upper path at Rowlands Dell, to make a attractive additions and interest alongside the new path and the new boulevard of trees. Including: Euphorbia, 2 Euonymus japonicus, dwarf conifer, Holly.
- Thank you to Sonia (pictured) new FOMD and Lydiate Councillor for helping Frank to dig some of the shrubs out (25.1.25). After planting, we had two trips to the tip to dispose of unearthed rubble debris, presumably the remains of the demolished Clent Farm to make way for the medical centre.
Background.
This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 266 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris. In the two months of Stage II, that was completed in November, with our NHS landowner partners (expertly installed by subcontractors – PR England Landscapers) using a health and wellness grant fund (representing Maghull’s largest green investment) have installed an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations to provide accessibility for the whole community (accessible path, viewing/picnic area, sunken garden, bins, 10,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points, bug and bird boxes, and a dry waterfall feature). We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help.
Please Join Our Massive tree planting (2,500) program in Maghull & Lydiate in January and February 2025. Please register your interest ASAP by emailing admin@fomd.co.uk with your contact details and we will be delighted to get back to you to offer you some dates for our community tree planting program.
