On behalf of our community we would like to express our immense gratitude to:

  • Lindsey Meadows (Lindsey’s Plumbing Services) and
  • Ken Hughes (Ken Hughes Stonemason’s Ltd and unparalleled Maghull community champion)

for helping to install pipework & bucket (14.4.26) and cemented a pebble backfill (20.4.26) respectively to the finishing stages of a community Wishing Well that will be a centrepiece of the Rowlands Dell project.

Lindsey and her incredibly friendly team have professionally installed some beautiful copper pipework and an aluminium bucket to enable the future circulation of water from inside the barrel up to the top of the Well, to fall into the suspended bucket, to cascade back into the barrel. Thank you also to Greenwood Hargreaves Ltd (HVA Wholesale Supplier) for skilfully modifying the bucket and bespoke fittings. The warmth of their cheerful community kindness took the edge of what was a bitterly cold wet morning.

Ken is not only an immensely skilled and experienced stonemason he is also Maghull’s unrivalled unsung community champion, undertaking countless extra acts of community kindness after long hard-working days over many years. On this occasion of many for our group, he skilfully cemented the backfilled of pebbles between the internal barrel and the Well wall in his dinnertime.

Background to Wishing Well.

The Rowlands Dell Wishing Well is situated in the upper picnic/viewing/Orchard  area close to the Westway Medical Centre, which has been organised by FOMD as part of the Rowlands Dell green transformation project. It has been part funded by an £8000 grant from Morrisons, constructed by our wonderfully friendly and experienced partners TCV (The Conservation Volunteers – a national organisation founded in 1959, who undertake projects with volunteers with a variety of needs and supervised by a ranger). It was inspired by Paul Pruden (horticultural manager Merseycare NHS Trust) as a recognition of the historic sandstone quarry. We hope that the iconic structure will on completion provide a tranquil sound of trickling water for evidence-based mindfulness, distraction from the distant sound of traffic and enable wishes to come true following many coin contributions already!
