A big shout out to one of our many kind volunteers Colin (aka Monty Colin). Since Colin retired from Dowhigh Construction he has had a wonderful passion for his allotment and kindly gives hours of voluntary work to Maghull through the Friends of Maghull & District. He always brings a warmth, good humour, tons of experience and bountiful surplus supplies grown at his allotment often referred to as our wages!
Colin very kindly helped last week to finish off the weeding at our Maghull Parkbourn Wildflower Garden Project and added another crazy teapot to our seventh wonder of the world famously known as the great hanging teapots of Maghull (forget the hanging Gardens of Babylon). The 30 funky teapots are hanging on a fence to provide habitat for birds and insects.
Colin also asked Dowhigh for the best wildflower medium comprising of eight tons of unfertile grit sand which now has thousands of wildflower seedlings racing to establish themselves in what we hope will not only be a stunning display but a rich bio-diverse pollinator haven.
Interestingly, we used your donations in 2020 to create two wildflower zones on either side of our Stafford Moreton Way eco-educational project leading up to the plastic recycling rhinoceros. Not wishing to have a poor display on Maghull’s highest footfall area, we obtained similar Wildflower Turf that was used for the prestigious wildflowers surrounding of the Olympic Park in London, which is starting to perform its colourful magic as we speak.
Parkbourn Background:
The Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) first (2018) is one of many local green transformations. This small area had been blighted with 20 years of profound antisocial and fly tipping behaviour, was transformed into a much-visited inspiring green wildlife oasis.
