The postponed 2024/25 MTC Civic Awards were presented at The Venue, St. George’s Social Club on 6.11.25. With many thanks to everyone involved in organising this event celebrating and reminding us of the inspiring community kindness that surrounds us every day in Maghull. There were six categories, with two removed from the previous year (best local business and environmental due to only one nomination for each) to create more generic options.
The Good Neighbour Award was won by Lynne Warham (Lynne pictured with Cllr Joanne McCall both of whom we are proud to call FOMD members) and nominated by Dr Frank Sharp and Diane Harvey.
Good Neighbour Award: Awarded to a person or people who support and enhance their neighbour’s lives. They may do shopping, invite their neighbour for a cup of tea or just keep an eye out for their general wellbeing.
Please state in no more than 200 words details for which you consider that the nominee should receive a Civic Award.
Nomination by Dr Frank Sharp.
Lynne set up her own business to provide the very best of support for the community’s utility bills but even more impressive is that over the last two years she moved from moderating a large community Facebook page to create a kind and immensely supportive local community Facebook page known as the Maghullultimate Community which has grown to over 4300 members already, offering everything you’d expect from a good neighbour but multiplied.
The group provides the following:
- Consistently warm, caring, sensitive, considerate responses to every post.
- Giving important information, ranging from when to put the bins out to how to receive physical and psychological support.
- She galvanises support for important community issues.
- Every Christmas she spends an immense amount of time providing an online fundraising initiative entitled ’Christmas Cheer’ which has raised £10,000, making a cumulative total of £50,000 over the last six years, to support the local Sefton Pantry (working with local schools to support vulnerable families), Young Minds (fighting for young people’s mental health) and bereavement support.
Which is even more remarkable because she has continued with her inspiring caring work despite the tragic loss of her lifelong partner and wife Kim last year.
Letter of Support from Diane Harvey
Lynne Warham is a naturally kind, caring and giving person.
She created the Facebook page Magulltimate which is a virtual Good Neighbour for the Maghull community.
Despite suffering a severe personal loss in 2024 Lynne has continued to be a prominent person who highlights a variety of information to the thousands of her Facebook users.
She supports local businesses by allowing them to advertise their services, gives information on personal safety and highlights road traffic issues to ensure the community avoid accidents. Lynne also posts the details of local events so that every organiser is given support and her users can enjoy themselves without having to travel out of the area.
Lynne is very caring and shows this every day when the community post their problems such as a lost pet, advice on utilities & debts to displaying the services of organisations who can help with depression, bereavement & suicide.
She also has a fun element to her personality by posting jokes to give her users a smile and wishing them a happy week ahead each Monday.
Lynne is the Good Neighbour that we all need in our lives and truly deserves this award.
Di Harvey
