Unbelievably, we have discovered on tonight’s (30.9.25) One Show that out of countless brilliant volunteer groups across the country that Maghull is one of the three finalists for the prestigious 2025 BBC One Show/RHS – ‘Growing Together’ Award, with the winner being announced on the same show tomorrow evening (Wednesday 1.10.25).

Normally we would never have applied for this competition, as although we have moved mountains, it is still a work in progress and with it being a national competition we thought the standard would be far too high. Nevertheless, a local resident kindly encouraged us on the closing date (13.6.25) and insisted that we tick all the boxes!

The Friends of Maghull & District’s – Rowlands Dell NHS Health and Wellness Project has three stages, with the first two involving (1) a year-long cleanup up pollutants and (2) funding and creating accessibility features completed. The third stage is ongoing to fund two paths and a massive amount of woodland planting to restore nature.

Huge thanks for your really kind support and fingers crossed for tomorrow evening – in the hope that we can fly the flag as a massive thank you to everyone who has helped us in Maghull/Merseyside.

DONATIONS NEEDED PLEASE !

In the meantime, we really need your support to boost our crowdfunding donations to enable the completion of this fantastic community project at Rowlands Dell.

We need to raise funds to pay for lower and upper connecting paths (creating a circular health and wellness walk) and a huge array of much-needed woodland plants.

  • Crowdfunding Campaign. So far, with your help, we have raised enough money for one path extension (£7,600) but we are hoping to raise another £7000 for another crucial connecting path and much-needed large-scale woodland shrubs.
  • Please donate online at www.fomd.co.uk or with cash at the Hare & Hounds PH, Morrisons, Esso Petrol Station.

Background to Rowlands Dell.

This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 300 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris.

In Stage II (completed in November), with the help of our NHS landowner partners we successfully obtained a health and wellness grant (Maghull’s largest green investment) to fund an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations. These features provided accessibility for the whole community and included: accessible path, viewing/picnic area, sunken garden, bins, 10,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points, bug and bird boxes, and a dry waterfall feature). A Morrisons grant has enabled us to create the ongoing bog garden and wishing well.

We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help.

Best Wishes,

Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD)

Together making Maghull a better place to live.
