SUMMARY:Come and Burn Those Extra Christmas Calories by Volunteering for One Hour in Maghull (at Rowlands Dell 09.30hrs\, 3.1.26)
DESCRIPTION:Following the extraordinarily successful transformative big planting day on Monday (8.12.25) of 600 ferns\,1000 daffodil bulbs and 85m path installation at Rowlands Dell we need your help to finish it off. \nVenue & Tasks. \nWe would love your help with any time you can spare from 09.30 hours on Saturday (3.1.26)\, at Rowlands Dell (opposite the newly refurbished Hare & Hounds PH\, L31 2HF)\, to make a fantastic difference to our environment and burn some festive calories! \nSeveral tasks choose from: \n\nWheelbarrowing soil to backfill new path.\nWheelbarrowing rocks to backfill new path.\nConverting pallet boxes into compost bins and filling with leaves.\nWeeding new woodland or new hedging.\nSawing two posts for lectern angled signage.\n\nEquipment needed: sturdy boots\, garden gloves\, garden/hand fork\, kneeling pad. \nBackground Summary: After making the Dell safe by spending one year removing pollutants in the town’s largest ever cleanup (300 binbags of litter and 25 tons of debris)\, making the Dell accessible with Maghull’s largest social value grant\, we have spent the last year undertaking crowdfunding events to restore and enhance this nature haven. So\, it was with great excitement this week that we spent £12\,000 on installing two more health and wellness paths and £2500 to create a woodland fern area\, lining a path through a new orchard with 1200 daffodils complementing the 10\,000 planted last year. This planting area will be one of four distinct woodland nature areas that will encourage and invite interest whilst providing biodiversity. \nThank you to: FOMD volunteers – Joan\, Diane\, Ian\, Nikki\, John (W)\, Graeme\, (pictured)\, Frank and Colin (not pictured)\, who attended an early sunny morning session (20.12.25) to brilliantly achieve the following: \n\nWheelbarrowed a small mountain of woodchip from the top of the Dell to the bottom\, to spread around the newly planted 600 ferns\, in our last event before Christmas.\nLeaf blowed leaves from newly planted grass and rockery and path to preserve new grass and prevent slips respectively (21.12.25)\nPlanted 12 tree ferns in fernery area (2.1.26)\nMoved path rock spoil to backfill new path (thank you to the anonymous person)\n\nIf You Would like to Help in the Future? \nVolunteer sessions this week (everyone is welcome without any commitment) can be found on our Events calendar page at https://www.fomd.co.uk/events/ where you will find all the details. \nCrowdfunding Campaign. So far\, with your help\, we have raised enough money to recently install a 50m  path extension but we are hoping to raise further funds for a 35m path extension and much-needed large-scale woodland shrubs in 2025/26. Please donate online at www.fomd.co.uk or with cash at the Hare & Hounds PH\, Morrisons\, Esso Petrol Station. \nRowlands Dell Introduction (3min Video): https://youtu.be/lxrTdudVza8?si=AM_znsaI35Cose-M \nBackground to Rowlands Dell. \nThis beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan\, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 300 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris. \nIn Stage II (completed in November)\, with the help of our NHS landowner partners we successfully obtained a health and wellness grant (Maghull’s largest green investment) to fund an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations. These features provided accessibility for the whole community and included: accessible path\, viewing/picnic area\, sunken garden\, bins\, 10\,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points\, bug and bird boxes\, and a dry waterfall feature). A Morrisons grant has enabled us to create the ongoing bog garden and wishing well. \nWe are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help. \nBest Wishes\, \nFriends of Maghull & District (FOMD) \nTogether making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information at www.fomd.co.uk including: (1) Events tab for everything about the meeting and (2) Projects tab for the project background. \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment \n

SUMMARY:New Year Resolution = New Maghull!
DESCRIPTION:Please can you help to give the Parkbourn Wildflower Garden its annual TLC with a quick one hour tidy up involving some weeding\, raking and laying a roll of donated (courtesy of Windmill Nursery) weed suppressing membrane to prepare for donated (courtesy of Linda) wildflower sowing in spring. \nVenue The Parkbourn Project is a little tricky to find. It is important to remove vegetation as it creates rich soil nutrition\, that hinders wildflowers as they prefer a poor quality soil medium.\n\nEquipment: You will need garden gloves\, sturdy boots\, large or small garden fork and secateurs. \nA Special Thank You to Colin who braved the chilly weather and joined me at Parkbourn on Wednesday (7.1.23). Surprisingly\, the two of us made a really noticeable difference after one hour. E.g. raking path leaves\, cutting perimeter dogwood hedge\, strimming and raking middle triangle of dead wildflowers and weeds. We have tried several strategies over the years to develop and sustain the wildflowers with occasional success\, but we are thinking of covering the area with the donated weed suppressant membrane and obtaining some tons of Mersey Grit and resow\, as recommended by a local wildflower expert. \nMore information at www.fomd.co.uk  including: (1) Events tab for everything about the meeting and (2) Projects tab for the project background. \nParkbourn Background:  \nThe Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) first (2018) of many local green transformations. In our three-stage plan\, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 300 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris (2024). \nIn Stage II (November 2024)\, with the help of our NHS landowner partners we successfully obtained a health and wellness grant (Maghull’s largest green investment) to fund an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations. \nWe are now engaging in stage three (2025/26) to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting\, extend the paths\, which crowdfunding in 2025 and will continue through 2026. \nSo\, it was with great excitement we spent £8\,000 on installing one more health and wellness path\, utilised £2500 to create a woodland fern area\, lining a path through the fernery to a new orchard with 1200 daffodils complementing the 10\,000 planted last year. This planting area will be one of four distinct co-dependent woodland nature areas that will encourage and invite interest whilst providing biodiversity. \nWe now need your help throughout 2026 for funding and planting to create a beautiful restorative legacy haven. \nAll the Best\, \nFriends of Maghull & District (FOMD) \nTogether making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information at www.fomd.co.uk including: (1) Events tab for everything about the meeting and (2) Projects tab for the project background. \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment

SUMMARY:Volunteers Unprecedented Support for Our Maghull Town Council (MTC) and Community: can you help?
DESCRIPTION:In 2020\, The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) responded to a community appeal by MTC to support our local parks. Although our group was in its infancy we punched above our weight to respond\, during impossible pandemic times\, with countless hours day and night organising multiple projects within one\, raising over £150\,000 for thousands of unprecedented large and small trees to be planted in nearly every council park and for Bobby’s Wood/Woodend to be transformed (see before and after pictures) from a unattractive Maghull entrance site to an attractive green jewel. Whilst obtaining two years of catalyst grant funding for the MTC Advice Centre and Warm Space hub. We have continued gradual improvements over the years and have dedicated four years of unsung weekly maintenance volunteer time to the Woodend site\, which last year resulted in the removal of over 30 agricultural bags of weeds and many other tasks. Although sadly we have little contact with the MTC\, doubtlessly  due to the enormous priority of resurrecting the town hall whilst providing a seamless service\, we hope our work has helped to lighten their load and provide some positivity. \nConsequently\, in these challenging times we would be delighted if you could spare just one hour for the beginning of our 2026 maintenance work at the Woodend Community Woodland Project on Monday (26.1.26) at 09:30 hours. The sooner we can complete this work; it will enable us to develop new possibly award-winning projects elsewhere for the benefit of Maghull\, in the same vein as our ongoing 2025 BBC/RHS national award-winning Rowlands NHS Health and Wellness Project. \nVenue & Tasks. \nThe Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) need volunteers to meet at Woodend (next to Bumbles Children’s Nursery\, junction of Liverpool Road South and Northway) for one hour on Monday (26.1.26) at 09.30 hours\, to: \n\nReplace damaged trees.\nTransfer two fruit trees to Rowlands Dell.\nShape wisteria arch\nWeed new underplanted trees and woodland border.\nRestore wooden reindeer.\nInstall stakes to support leaning tree.\n\nEquipment needed: sturdy boots\, garden gloves\, spade\, hand and garden fork \nThank You to Joan\, Linda\, Jill\, Frank and Colin for completing the 2025 weeding of the largest woodland border in Maghull and applying wood preservative to the picnic thrones (September 2025). \nBest Wishes\, \nFriends of Maghull & District (FOMD) \nTogether making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information at www.fomd.co.uk including: (1) Events tab for everything about the meeting and (2) Projects tab for the project background. \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment
