SUMMARY:Maghull’s Big Green Restoration Continues: Can You Help?
DESCRIPTION:Venue & Tasks. \nThe Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) need volunteers to meet at Rowlands Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub) for one hour on Saturday (12.4.25) at 09:30 hours\, to: \n\nWater the new Yew Tree hedge\, to improve and maximise future growth and survival\, following the added three tons of topsoil and new woodchip.\nContinue removing debris created from Yew tree planting – whilst it is still visible to prevent damaging tools during future maintenance work.\nMain task to continue breaking up the twigs to start creating multiple bug friendly tree and vegetation piles within the new woodland area.\n\nEquipment needed: sturdy boots\, garden gloves\, and any of the following – watering can\, wheelbarrow\, Rake\, shovel. \nHuge thanks for any help you can provide and if you can’t make it please consider a financial donation to boost our green restoration planting spectacular by visiting www.fomd.co.uk and hit the yellow donation button at the top right of the page. \nLots more volunteer opportunities will be coming up soon\, so please keep an eye on our events calendar. \nThank You to all the amazing volunteers over last Saturdays (5/12.4.25) and throughout the week\, at Woodend with yet another brilliant outcome in which we were able to: \n\nMove another mountain of woodchip (created sadly from the considerable reduction of a 100-year-old tree) into the path of the children’s nature corner.\nCreated a water feature in the nature corner utilising a Belfast sink (kindly donated from Marion) which has been populated with some tadpoles courtesy of Joan and will have some additional planting in the future (Pictured).\nPaul and Harry Richards (tree surgeons) for yet another generous mountain of woodchip.\n\nIt was another great team effort by our volunteers. A massive thank you to: Jill\, Joan\, Diane (pictured) and Colin and Frank (not pictured)\, \nHuge thanks to one and all\, \nFOMD \nTogether making Maghull a better place to live. \nBackground to Rowlands. \nThis beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan\, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 266 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris. In the two months of Stage II\, that was completed in November\, with our NHS landowner partners (expertly installed by subcontractors – PR England Landscapers) using a health and wellness grant fund (representing Maghull’s largest green investment) have installed an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations to provide accessibility for the whole community (accessible path\, viewing/picnic area\, sunken garden\, bins\, 10\,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points\, bug and bird boxes\, and a dry waterfall feature). We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help. \nMore information at www.fomd.co.uk including: (1) Events tab for everything about the meeting and (2) Projects tab for the project background. \nMore information. www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment

Can you help with the ongoing transformation? \nVenue & Tasks. \nThe Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) need volunteers to meet at Rowlands Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub) for one hour on Thursday (17.4.25) at 09:00 hours\, to: \n\nContinue removing debris created from Yew tree planting – whilst it is still visible to prevent damaging tools during future maintenance work.\nContinue breaking up the twigs to start creating multiple bug friendly tree and vegetation piles within the new woodland area.\nPlant and water some recently kindly donated plants.\n\nEquipment needed: sturdy boots\, garden gloves and spade. \nThank You to all the amazing volunteers from last Saturday (12.4.25) and throughout the week\, at Rowlands Dell with yet another brilliant outcome in which we were able to: \n\nWater 225 Yew tree hedge whips with kind support of our neighbours (Anne and Jerry) hosepipe.\nLitter picked and emptied three full bins of rubbish.\nMainly focused on raking further debris from the lower section of the Dell.\nThe final section of the resin bound path has been completed on Friday (11.4.25) providing full disability access undertaken by PR England landscapers and gratefully funded by the NHS Services Social Value Team. In addition\, they installed a blue resin within the dry waterfall feature. With special thanks to Phil Meadows\, Maria Robertson and Richard England.\n\nIt was another great team effort by our volunteers. A massive thank you to: John\, Colin and Frank. \nHuge thanks to one and all\, \nFOMD \nTogether making Maghull a better place to live. \nBackground to Rowlands. \nThis beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. SUMMARY:Volunteers Needed for Woodend Community Woodland Project
DESCRIPTION:Venue & Tasks. \nThe Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) need volunteers to meet at Woodend (at the junction of Liverpool Road South and Northway) for one hour on Thursday (24.4.25) at 09:30 hours\, to: \n\nBegin the annual weeding of the large woodland border (50x4m).\nPrune wisteria\nRe-Establish willow arch.\nResurrect wooden reindeer family.\n\nEquipment needed: sturdy boots\, garden gloves and garden or hand fork \nLots more volunteer opportunities will be coming up soon\, so please keep an eye on our events calendar. \nHuge thanks to one and all\, \nFOMD \nTogether making Maghull a better place to live. \nThank You: \nFollowing the tragic severe reduction of the oldest tree (100+) the area looks quite barren\, consequently I planted the two donated willow trees and the plumb cherry tree (with thanks to James\, Linda and Jon) in close vicinity to the 15 foot stump which is encouragingly showing some signs of a resurrection. \nBackground to the Woodend Community Woodland Project \nIn 2019\, the Woodend/Bobby’s Wood (junction of Liverpool Road\, South and Northway) was an uninspiring space/drab entrance to Maghull and unusable by most people and wildlife\, and a potential magnet for even more housebuilding in Maghull. \nIn 2020\, at the height of the pandemic restrictions the Friends of Maghull and District (FOMD) unbelievably raised more than £30\,000 (doubled over the years)\, to make the area a safe\, accessible\, interesting and naturally beautiful area that has become a regular destination. \nWoodend was transformed by creating an ‘accessible’ 230m Cotswolds style path. A ‘safe’ 230m perimeter fence and wildlife friendly hedging. Created a new 50x4m border planted with over 500 plant donations. Planted and installed: 2\,500 trees\, 5\,000 bulbs\, benches\, bins\, noticeboard\, rockery\, children’s eco-education corner\, coronation picnic area\, and a community kindness art installation. Amazingly\, our inspiring unsung volunteers have been removing 25/30 agricultural bags of weeds from the border every year\, that we are hoping will gradually reduce as the ground covering shrubs develop. \nCheck out the evolution in this link: https://www.fomd.co.uk/woodend-community-woodland-project/ \nMore information at www.fomd.co.uk including: (1) Events tab for everything about the meeting and (2) Projects tab for the project background. \nMore information. www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment
