SUMMARY:Generous Shrub Donations Need Digging out to Be Transported and Planted at Rowlands Dell: Can You Help?
DESCRIPTION:Venue & Tasks. \nThe Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) are meeting 4\, Fieldway\, Maghull (L31 5NB) for one hour on Saturday (1.2.25) at 09:30 hours\, to remove three large plants from the front garden and transport them for planting at Rowlands Dell (time permitting). \nPlease be warned that it might be heavy work digging them out\, due to their size (see picture). \nAlternative lighter tasks (1) after the strong winds it would be fantastic if the twigs and branches could be collected into the main pile for future wildlife habitat creation\, at Rowlands Dell. (2) bring watering cans to fill up from the water butts to water in the newly donated shrubs in the border above the new path. Until we arrive to dig in the donated shrubs. \nEquipment needed: Spade\, large garden fork\, sturdy boots and garden gloves. Watering can. \nHuge thanks for any help you can provide and if you can’t make it please consider a financial donation to boost our green restoration planting spectacular by visiting www.fomd.co.uk and hit the yellow donation button at the top right of the page. \nLots more volunteer opportunities will be coming up soon\, so please keep an eye on our events calendar. \nHuge thanks to one and all\, \nFOMD \nTogether making Maghull a better place to live. \nBackground. \nThis beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan\, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 266 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris. In the two months of Stage II\, that was completed in November\, with our NHS landowner partners (expertly installed by subcontractors – PR England Landscapers) using a health and wellness grant fund (representing Maghull’s largest green investment) have installed an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations to provide accessibility for the whole community (accessible path\, viewing/picnic area\, sunken garden\, bins\, 10\,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points\, bug and bird boxes\, and a dry waterfall feature). We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help. \nPictured: donors garden \nPlease Join Our Massive tree planting (2\,500) program in Maghull & Lydiate early in the new year. Please register your interest ASAP by emailing admin@fomd.co.uk with your contact details and we will be delighted to get back to you to offer you some dates for our community tree planting program. \nMore information at www.fomd.co.uk including: (1) Events tab for everything about the meeting and (2) Projects tab for the project background. \nMore information. www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment

SUMMARY:Small Tree and Shrub Planting One Hour Session.
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) are meeting for one hour on Saturday (8.2.25) to plant over 20 small trees and shrubs and any other kindly donated woodland themed plants that you may wish to bring along e.g. rhododendrons\, hydrangeas\, azaleas\, ferns\, heathers\, maple and fern trees etc. We will also be preparing the ground for our biggest tree planting events on the 21/22.2.25. \nWe are meeting on Saturday 8.2.25 at 09.30 hours (for one hour only) at Rowlands Dell (opposite the Hare and Hounds Pub). \nWe are simply digging holes to plant the trees/shrubs\, so you will need the essential sturdy boots\, garden gloves\, and a spade. Alternatively\, we may be raking the soil and cutting exposed roots in preparation for sowing grass seeds\, in which case you will need a stiff rake and secateurs. \nHuge thanks to one and all\, \nFOMD \nTogether making Maghull a better place to. \nBackground. \nThis beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. SUMMARY:Please Help at Rowlands Dell Focusing on Creating Log Arch\, Planting and Tree Preparation.
DESCRIPTION:Sunday (16.2.25) 0900 hours can we meet at Rowlands Dell to rendezvous with Paul and Harry Richards (tree surgeons) who are really going out of their way\, on their day off\, to deliver some saved logs for us and cut them down to the correct size on site for us to insert in and around the archway. \nTasks: \n(1)      It would be really helpful if people could bring hammers to tack down two lengths of wire to connect multiple logs together\, that will go over the top of all the loose logs and act as a retainer. It is a fiddly lengthy job that will be so much quicker if we can do it together. We are quite keen to get the logs secured in one go to prevent any tampering or theft! \n(2)      If you could bring a spade/garden fork we could also transfer Colin’s kind donation of digitalis from the holding area to the upper border. \n(3)      If time permits\, we could also loosen the soil where the yew trees will be forming a hedge on the big planting day\, approximately 1.5 m away from the wall. \nThe customary essentials include sturdy boots and garden gloves. \nHuge thanks in advance\, \nFOMD

SUMMARY:Urgent Tree Planting Volunteers Needed In February Half Term!
DESCRIPTION:Urgent Tree Planting Volunteers Needed \nIn February Half Term! \nAs part of the Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) climate action & environmental improvements we have our second and largest 2025 family friendly tree planting (1\,248 Trees!) session on \n Friday 21 February 2025\, from 10.00 hours\,   \nat Rowlands Dell\, \nLiverpool Road North\, Maghull. L31 2HL. \n(opposite Hare & Hounds Pub)  \nEssentials: please bring sturdy boots\, garden gloves and a spade. \n  \nWith your help we are hoping to plant 1248 trees at this event with 500 more the following week at St Gregory’s Primary School. \nPlease Register ASAP or simply turn up to Help. \nThe Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) is only a small group\, and our success has been achieved by bringing the community together. Consequently\, we need everyone to register their interest for this massive tree planting program in the New Year by sending your contact details to admin@fomd.co.uk so we can get in touch with drop in planting dates between January and March. Please help our community to continue making a difference to our environment and do our bit for climate change. No commitment but any time you can give short or long will be invaluable and a bit of healthy fun along the way. \nThe Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) have planted 16\,000 trees in Maghull since 2021\, in parks\, schools\, roads and are now delighted to have secured woodland and hedge trees for St Gregory’s Primary School (1\,450) and Rowlands Dell (1\,248). \nFollowing the successful application the trees will be delivered at staggered intervals between January and March 2025\, with considerable gratitude to the charitable suppliers – The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) The Woodland Trust\, The Tree Council and supported by our brilliant long-term partners Mersey Forest. \nAt St Gregory’s we have planted a wildlife friendly\, pollution reducing 178m hawthorn hedge (950 trees) in January and in February woodland (420 trees) comprising of Common Oak\, Green Beach\, Birch\, Alder\, Hornbeam\, Rowan\, Field Maple\, Hazel. It will importantly provide a great eco-educational opportunity for all the children and community volunteers\, whilst providing a wonderful environmental legacy for future generations. \nAt Rowlands Dell the planting will create a wildlife friendly (habitat and food)\, pollution reducing (particulates\, Co2 and noise) 141m hawthorn hedge (705 trees) and woodland (318 trees) comprising of Common Oak\, Green Beach\, Birch\, Alder\, Hornbeam\, Rowan\, Field Maple\, Hazel. Another 45m hedge will comprise of 225 Yew trees and will complement the 350 mixed wildlife friendly hedging planted earlier this year. They will also help to screen the neighbouring traffic to provide an even more tranquil legacy haven for the community and wildlife. \nSadly\, Maghull has lost approximately 500 mature trees due to Ash dieback and Dutch Elm disease\, whilst many green spaces are being lost for housebuilding\, consequently your help will make a massive difference. \nHuge thanks\, \nFOMD \nTogether Making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information. www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment
