SUMMARY:A Feast for the Eyes at Maghull’s New Beauty Spot Viewing Area: Can You Help?
DESCRIPTION:The newly installed block paved viewing area\, resplendent with three benches and a bin provides a reflective space overlooking the ongoing green centre transformation being undertaken at Rowlands Dell NHS health and wellness woodland. The viewing area is part of several features representing one of Maghull’s largest green grant investments gratefully obtained by FOMD’s NHS partner. \nBackground. \nThis beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three stage plan\, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46 week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 266 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris. In the two months of Stage II\, that was completed this month\, with our NHS landowner partners (expertly installed by subcontractors – PR England Landscapers) using a health and wellness grant fund (representing Maghull’s largest green investment) have installed an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations to provide accessibility for  the whole community. We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and needs your help. \nCan you help? \nThe Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) final one hour session this year (in which everyone is welcome without any commitment)\, will be meeting at our Rowlands Dell Project (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub)\, this Wednesday (09.30 hrs\, 4.12.24) to transfer most of our donated plants from our on-site holding area\, into a dry water feature rockery and possibly moving a few trees. \nEquipment:  You will need garden gloves and sturdy boots\, hand and garden fork and spade. The rockery is part of several features representing one of Maghull’s largest green grant investments gratefully obtained by FOMD’s NHS partner. \nBackground. \nThis beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help. \nThank you to: \n\nFrank’s family who donated their late parents Lakeland rockery that was a beautiful pond feature in their childhood garden.\nFrank’s neighbour Rose for putting up with the rockery storage behind her house for a year\nAlan Frost who transported the rocks with his grabber.\nRichard England (PR England landscapers) who expertly installed the rockery.\nThe NHS landowner’s who are intending to insert an artificial cascading stream in the next few weeks.\nDue to the exhausted NHS grant funding\, we are enormously grateful to the 50 community plant donations that we transported from the holding area into the rockery with a few finer plants to be purchased later.\nThe volunteers who kindly and cheerfully planted the donated plants over the last two weeks (26.11.24 & 7.12.24): Jill\, Ros\, Graham (pictured) with Sarah and Tom (Saxon Tree Services\, who cut back the final hedge and ground ivy) and Colin\, Christine and Frank (not pictured).\n\nCan You Help with FOMD’s Final 2024 One-Hour Session at Rowlands Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub)\, at 09:30 hours on Wednesday (11.12.24 when everyone is welcome without any commitment). We will be simply lifting 18 Mersey Forest donated trees (from a dismantled Tatton Park RHS display) and planting them within the Dell. \nEquipment:  You will need garden gloves and sturdy boots\, garden fork and spade.
