SUMMARY:Outstanding Maghull Air Cadets Swoop to Help Community: can you help?
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in thanking the 14 Cadets and Staff from 2348 Maghull Sqn who generously worked tirelessly for 90 minutes on Saturday morning (31.8.24)\, at The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) Rowlands Dell Project adjacent to the Hare and Hounds Pub. Together with FOMD volunteers (Carl\, Joanne pictured with squadron and Meredith\, Colin\, Frank not pictured) they removed more tenacious ground Ivy to access 30 years of neglect in the form of embedded litter and rubble debris\, which is harmful to humans and wildlife\, amounting to 7 bin bags of litter and mountains of rubble and vegetation\, in the final West area of the site. Transported to the recycling centre on Saturday and Sunday. \nThe cadets are a real credit to themselves\, the squadron and their families as they were enormously friendly\, polite\, organised and hard-working\, in much the same way they were in previous years when supporting FOMD with tree maintenance at Old Hall Park and Hudson Primary School. They are based next to Hudson Primary School and are currently recruiting\, with further information about the squadron in the link below. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/154530851941643/user/100064604718992/ \nMore Special Thanks! \n\nA huge thank you to Sarah Pollard (Saxon Tree Services and a regular Saturday FOMD volunteer) who donated a large load of woodchip to the Rowlands Dell project on Monday (26.8.24) which we moved and spread (27.8.24) on the lower section of the south slope to temporarily suppress the cleared weeds and provide a hydrating biomass humus for the trees.\nThank you to Gerry (Rowlands Dell neighbour) who kindly donated further shrubs that we planted and watered in our holding area.\n\nNext Up – Can you spare one hour\, without any commitment\, on Saturday (7.9.24) meeting at 10.00 hrs in the Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub). This beautiful haven for wildlife has been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch is revealing a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. We hope to remove all the debris this summer and commence the imminent stage II in September 2024 involving a huge programme of planting\, rewilding and some hard landscaping that will be healthy for wildlife and humans\, whilst ultimately preventing building on yet another perceived neglected green space. \n Main Tasks. \n\nWe will continue raking out the huge amounts of harmful to wildlife debris that has accumulated from over 30 years of sad neglect (eg vegetation\, rubble and litter)\, along the worst west section and removing bramble regrowth at the top of the North slope.\n\n Equipment. All you will need are: \n\nSturdy boots\, garden gloves (essentials)\nGround ivy and debris removal: please bring litter picker\, garden fork\, rigid soil rake (essential) not a lawn rake\, to remove some of the embedded litter.\nIf you are interested in helping to remove the ground Ivy to enable us to access the debris beneath\, please bring a brush cutter/strimmer\, protective glasses.\nFor the bramble removal just a spade.\n\nMain Picture: 2438 ATC Squadron with FOMD volunteers Carl and Joanne. Not pictured: Colin\, Meredith\, Frank) \nOverall\, our one-hour sessions over the last 44 consecutive weeks have resulted in collecting 258 bin bags of litter\, a huge and shameful array of polluting debris and tons of tree and wall damaging Ivy\, with multiple trips to the recycling centre. \nWe have received some wonderful feedback and are clearly seeing the difference every time we are there. \nThank you once again for your generous support of our group\, you really are amazing and making such a massive difference to our community at so many levels. \nLooking forward to seeing you. \nFriends of Maghull & District (FOMD) \nTogether Making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information and for any last-minute changes please check ‘Events’ at: www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment \nSaxon Tree Services. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61555652425418 \nhttps://www.saxontrees.co.uk/ \nTel No: 07722432313

SUMMARY:Astounding Milestone in Maghull’s Largest Green Centre Renovation: unbelievable work and remarkable investment.
DESCRIPTION:Please congratulate all the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) volunteers and the countless others that also joined in over 45+ consecutive weekly sessions removing tons and tons of harmful tenacious vegetation\, debris pollutants and 261 bin bags of litter\, that have accumulated from 30 years of profound neglect and abuse in which Rowlands Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub) has been treated as an open tip. \nIt has been Maghull’s largest environmental community action involving so many hard-working kind-hearted individuals and groups\, reversing 30 years of harmful neglect. \nStage II – The NHS are investing considerable resources over the next two months to create health and wellness environmental improvements to Rowlands Dell and other areas in their medical centre grounds\, utilising funds from a successful grant application that has never been successfully obtained in the north-west before. Following the NHS hard and soft landscaping work\, we will be focusing on (Stage 3) raising further funds to repopulate the Dell into a beautiful woodland environment that will be a living legacy haven for humans\, wildlife and biodiversity. \nOverall\, our one-hour sessions over the last 45 consecutive weeks have resulted in collecting 261 bin bags of litter\, a massive and shameful array of polluting debris and tons of tree and wall damaging Ivy\, with multiple trips to the recycling centre. \nNext Up our final session before the closure of the Rowlands Dell for two months – Can you spare one hour\, without any commitment\, on Saturday (14.9.24) meeting at 10.00 hrs in the Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub). This beautiful haven for wildlife has been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch is revealing a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. \nWe hope to remove the final debris before the imminent and huge program of planting\, rewilding and some hard landscaping that will be healthy for wildlife and humans\, whilst ultimately preventing building on yet another perceived neglected green space. \n Main Tasks. \n\nWe will continue the final raking out of the huge amounts of harmful to wildlife debris that has accumulated from over 30 years of sad neglect (eg vegetation\, rubble and litter)\, along the worst west section.\n\n Equipment. All you will need are: \n\nSturdy boots\, garden gloves (essentials)\nGround ivy and debris removal: please bring litter picker\, garden fork\, rigid soil rake (essential) not a lawn rake\, to remove some of the embedded litter.\nIf you are interested in helping to remove the ground Ivy to enable us to access the debris beneath\, please bring a brush cutter/strimmer\, protective glasses.\nFor the bramble removal just a spade.\n\nMain Picture & Thanks: Thank you to Joan (G)\, Joan (S)\, Diane\, John and not pictured Colin\, Christine and Frank\, who worked so hard and cheerfully raking debris out of the final west area of the Dell\, last week (7.9.24). \nWe are receiving wonderful feedback and are clearly seeing the difference every time we are there. \nThank you once again for your generous support of our group\, you really are amazing and making such a massive difference to our community at so many levels. \nLooking forward to seeing you. \nFriends of Maghull & District (FOMD) \nTogether Making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information and for any last-minute changes please check ‘Events’ at: www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment

SUMMARY:Unbelievable Transformation in Maghull’s Largest Community Project (2019 V 2024 Pictured)!
DESCRIPTION:In 2019\, the Woodend/Bobby’s Wood (junction of Liverpool Road\, South and Northway) was an uninspiring space as a drab entrance to Maghull and unusable by most people and wildlife\, and a potential magnet for even more housebuilding in Maghull. \nIn 2020\, at the height of the pandemic restrictions the Friends of Maghull and District (FOMD) unbelievably raised more than £30\,000\, to make the area a safe\, accessible\, interesting and naturally beautiful area that has become a regular destination. We even surprised ourselves this week by looking at long forgotten Google pictures capturing what it looked like before we started! \nWoodend was transformed by creating an ‘accessible’ 230m Cotswolds style path. A ‘safe’ 230m perimeter fence and wildlife friendly hedging. Created a new 50x4m border planted with countless plant donations. Planted and installed: trees\, bulbs\, benches\, bins\, noticeboard\, rockery\, children’s eco-education corner\, coronation picnic area\, and a community kindness art installation. \nCheck out the evolution in this link: https://www.fomd.co.uk/woodend-community-woodland-project/ \nWant To Help? \nMaghull’s largest and most beautiful maturing community woodland themed border has been alive with pollinators but needs a little autumn help simply cutting back some of the shrubs to prevent them from growing into each other and even if you can’t help it is well worth a visit. \nThe Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) next one hour for Maghull\, will be focusing on a small amount of weeding and pruning on our Woodend Community Woodland Project\, meeting at Woodend/Bobby’s Wood next to Bumbles Nursery on Wednesday (18.9.24) at 09.30 hours\, for one hour only and without any commitment. \n Equipment: If you can make it\, you will need garden gloves\, sturdy boots\, loppers\, secateurs\, hedge cutters. \nMore information at www.fomd.co.uk including: (1) Events tab for everything about the meeting and (2) Projects tab for the project background. \nMany Thanks to Joan\, Jill pictured and Colin and Frank not pictured.
