SUMMARY:Mersey Forest Supporting Maghull’s Rowlands Dell Restoration: can you spare one hour?
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday (3.8.24)\, the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) volunteers continued with the green restoration work at Rowlands Dell. We will be joined by our good friends Mersey Forest who are celebrating the planting of 185\,924 trees in Cheshire and Merseyside in the last planting season (October – March)\, and will be planting some donated trees. https://www.merseyforest.org.uk/news/community-set-to-benefit-following-bumper-tree-planting-season/ \nThank You to the amazing volunteers for undertaking the following work: \n\nSouth Slope: spot this spraying of new bramble growth prior to future new planting.\nNorth Slope we continued finishing the final section near the path by raking and removing debris.\nRegrowth of damaging Ivy up some of the trees was removed by Christine\nLitter picking continued courtesy of Diane who focused on the Dell\, the local car park and even the canal pathway.\nContinued access to the underlying polluting debris and litter\, through raking.\n4 bin bags of rubbish were transported to the tip.\nMore Rubble debris was transported to the tip\nBrushed Path.\nPlanted a dozen donated woodland themed plants in a holding area with many thanks to Malcolm.\nWe were also heartened to receive a visit from George’s granddaughter who came to visit his donated tree which had a strong attachment between her and her grandmother who sadly died last year.\n\nPictured: A huge thank you to Christina\, Christine Diane\, Rob\, and Diane (H)\, Colin and Frank not pictured. \nNext Up – Can you spare one hour\, without any commitment\, on Saturday (3.8.24) meeting at 10.00 in the Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub). This beautiful haven for wildlife has been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch is revealing a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. We hope to remove all the debris this summer and commence a huge programme of planting and rewilding in Autumn\, that will be healthy for wildlife and humans\, whilst ultimately preventing building on yet another perceived neglected green space. \n Main Tasks. \n\nMersey Forrest will be joining us to donate 18 substantial tree whips from their dismantled Tatton Park display to be healed in\, to the ground temporarily. In addition\, we will temporarily plant a donated rhododendron courtesy of Rachel.\n\n\nTime permitting we will continue raking out the huge amounts of harmful to wildlife debris that has accumulated from over 30 years of sad neglect (eg vegetation\, rubble and litter)\, down the final part of the north slope and continuing along the worst west section.\n\nEquipment. All you will need are: \n\nSturdy boots\, garden gloves (essentials)\nSpade (essential) for planting donated trees and plants.\nGround ivy and debris removal: please bring litter picker\, garden fork\, rigid soil rake (essential) not a lawn rake\, to remove some of the embedded litter.\n\n\nIf you are interested in helping to remove the ground Ivy to enable us to access the debris beneath\, please bring a brush cutter/strimmer\, protective glasses.\n\nOverall\, our one-hour sessions over the last 39 consecutive weeks have resulted in collecting 241 bin bags of litter\, a huge and shameful array of polluting debris and tons of tree and wall damaging Ivy\, with multiple trips to the recycling centre. \nWe have received some wonderful feedback and are clearly seeing the difference every time we are there. \nA huge thank you once again for your generous support of our group\, you really are amazing and making such a massive difference to our community at so many levels. \nLooking forward to seeing you. \nFriends of Maghull & District (FOMD) \nTogether Making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information and for any last-minute changes please check ‘Events’ at: www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment

SUMMARY:From Maghull’s Hanging Teapots to the Recycling Rhinoceros: Can You Help for One Hour?
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) next one hour for Maghull\, will be focusing on a small amount of weeding on our Stafford Morton Way Eco-Educational Wildflower Project\, meeting near Rainbow the Rhinoceros on Wednesday (7.8.24) at 0930 hours. \nEquipment: If you can make it\, you will need garden gloves\, sturdy boots\, large and small garden fork. \nMore information at www.fomd.co.uk  including: (1) Events tab for everything about the meeting and (2) Projects tab for the project background. \nEnormous Thanks for the Amazing Green Revamp Support on the 31.7.24 Involving and Undertaken by: \n\nPaul Richards (Tree Surgeon) who yet again very kindly donated enough woodchip to replenish the wildflower path which replaced the mulch that we spread from the path onto the outer border.\nRachel who donated a beautiful rhododendron.\nThe pictured FOMD volunteers\, who removed and spread the mulch from the path to the outer border\, spread the new woodchip on the log path\, removed the weed and trimmed vegetation to the recycling centre\, moved five Hostas into a more prominent positions\, and planted and watered the donated rhododendron.\n\nThis was the Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) first of many community environmental transformations which started at Parkbourn in Maghull in 2018. We recently highlighted it on Google maps receiving over 1000 hits over two months. The area was transformed from an antisocial grot spot to a much-visited oasis\, but following some overdue completed weeding and hedge and shrub trimming and the replenishing of the path\, it now looks really beautiful and well worth a visit. \nPictured: Many thanks to Jill\, Dave\, Diane\, Rob and Colin & Frank (not pictured). Jill was taking a well-deserved rest in the wheelbarrow after not only gardening on this project but also at home\, her mother’s and St Andrews Church\, then walk 2 miles home! \nMany Thanks\, \nFOMD \nTogether Making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information about this and other projects at: www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \nContact Richards Tree Service \n07455115790 \n07846455697 \nhttps://richardstreeservicesnorthwest.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment

SUMMARY:Together Making Maghull a Better Place To Live: Can You Spare an Occasional One Hour?
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) next one hour for Maghull\, will be focusing on a small amount of weeding and pruning on our Woodend Community Woodland Project\, meeting at Woodend/Bobby’s Wood next to Bumbles Nursery on Wednesday (14.8.24) at 0930 hours\, for one hour only and without any commitment. This maturing community Woodland themed border is the largest and most beautiful in Maghull\, and even if you can’t help it is well worth a visit. \nEquipment: If you can make it\, you will need garden gloves\, sturdy boots\, large and small garden fork\, loppers\, secateurs\, hedge cutters. \nMore information at www.fomd.co.uk including: (1) Events tab for everything about the meeting and (2) Projects tab for the project background. \nEnormous Thanks to Jill\, Diane\, Rob\, Ross (pictured) and Frank (not pictured)\, who undertook some amazing green maintenance work on FOMD’s Stafford Moreton Way Eco-Education Project on Maghull’s highest footfall by: \n\nRemarkably removing to the recycling centre three agricultural bags of weeds from the dormant flowerbeds behind the wildflowers on both sides of the road. The huge variety of wildflowers are really active but the grass will need to be controlled further at the end of the season with a refresh of wildflowers with extra yellow rattle seeds which are helpfully parasitic to grass.\nTwo large agricultural bags of bottle tops have also been removed from Rainbow the recycling rhinoceros and transported to Neston High School\, for recycling by the children to make national award-winning artefacts.\n\nMany Thanks\, \nFOMD \nTogether Making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information about this and other projects at: www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment

SUMMARY:Thank You to Local Tree Surgeon & Volunteers for Improving Maghull: Can You Help for One Hour Next?
DESCRIPTION:Huge thanks once again to Paul Richards (local community award-winning tree surgeon) who kindly supplied another load of woodchip (7.8.24) and to some our Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) volunteers who got drenched on Saturday spreading the woodchip\, watering plants in our holding area\, and removing weeds in the south slope of our huge Rowlands Dell Project. \nIn addition\, thank you to Jill and Frank (5.8.24) for litter picking three more binbags from the West area\, lawn mowing and removing returning bramble stumps and dominant weeds from the North Slope and watering the donated plants and trees. \nThe continued spreading of woodchip has been a godsend as it is replacing humus\, temporarily suppressing dominant weeds prior to the imminent landscaping and woodland repopulating. Thank you to Colin for his kind and generous free super fresh and tasty supply of allotment grown fruit and veg (pictured). Unbelievably\, in 41 consecutive one hour Saturday sessions this was the first time it has rained on us\, so a special thanks for all the hard work despite the rain! On a positive\, the Dell looked stunningly lush. \nNext Up – Can you spare one hour\, without any commitment\, on Saturday (17.8.24) meeting at 10.00 in the Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub). SUMMARY:Thank You for Making a Positive Difference to Maghull: Can You Help for One Hour Next?
DESCRIPTION:Thank you to Sarah Pollard (local Saxon Tree Services) who kindly supplied a load of woodchip (13.8.24) and is a regular volunteer and our other amazing Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) volunteers who spread the woodchip during the week (14.8.24 at 07.30hrs!). Whilst last Saturday they made some wonderful progress removing ground ivy to access five bin bags of embedded litter and even more debris\, from the final North Slope and West area of Rowlands Dell. In addition\, to transporting several carloads of rubbish and rubble to the recycling centre and watering donated plants in the holding area. \nNext Up – Can you spare one hour\, without any commitment\, on Saturday (24.8.24) meeting at 10.00 in the Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub). \n\nWe will continue raking out the huge amounts of harmful to wildlife debris that has accumulated from over 30 years of sad neglect (eg vegetation\, rubble and litter)\, along the worst west section and removing bramble regrowth at the top of the North slope.\n\n Equipment. All you will need are: \n\nSturdy boots\, garden gloves (essentials)\nGround ivy and debris removal: please bring litter picker\, garden fork\, rigid soil rake (essential) not a lawn rake\, to remove some of the embedded litter.\nIf you are interested in helping to remove the ground Ivy to enable us to access the debris beneath\, please bring a brush cutter/strimmer\, protective glasses.\nFor the bramble removal just a spade.\n\nPictured: (1) FOMD volunteers: Diane (H)\, Diane\, Rob\, Christina\, Ken\, Carl (pictured) and Colin (not pictured). (2) Saxon Tree specialists: Sarah Pollard. Also a big thank you to Jill who did some further fantastic solo clearance work during the week. \nOverall\, our one-hour sessions over the last 42 consecutive weeks have resulted in collecting 248 bin bags of litter\, a huge and shameful array of polluting debris and tons of tree and wall damaging Ivy\, with multiple trips to the recycling centre. \nWe have received some wonderful feedback and are clearly seeing the difference every time we are there. \nThank you once again for your generous support of our group\, you really are amazing and making such a massive difference to our community at so many levels. \nLooking forward to seeing you. \nFriends of Maghull & District (FOMD) \nTogether Making Maghull a better place to live. \n  \nMore information and for any last-minute changes please check ‘Events’ at: www.fomd.co.uk \n  \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n  \nSaxon Tree Services. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61555652425418 \nhttps://www.saxontrees.co.uk/ \nTel No: 07722432313 \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment \n \n

SUMMARY:Local Horticultural Legend Visits Maghull’s Green Centre Restoration: Can You Help for One Hour Next?
DESCRIPTION:We were delighted and privileged to receive a visit (13.6.24) from Don Billington\, who has won 14 consecutive gold medals at the RHS Chelsea flower show and many other distinguished awards elsewhere but has now received his highest accolade by becoming an RHS Judge this year. Don is one of the friendliest\, good-humoured\, down-to-earth people you will ever have the pleasure to meet. He lives in Maghull and has been a wonderful servant of Maghull through his unrivalled expert support of Maghull in Bloom for many years\, which as a community we are enormously indebted. \nDon has had a keen interest in Rowlands Dell for over 10 years and was delighted that positive progress is being made that will be shaped further on completion of the imminent meticulously planned and consulted hard and soft landscaping. It represents an extraordinarily generous health and wellness investment by the NHS landowners that will commence in Autumn. We would like to convey hugely deserved congratulations to Don on behalf of our grateful community for his prestigious accolade and community kindness that uplifts our spirits on a daily basis. \nNext Up – Can you spare one hour\, without any commitment\, on Saturday (31.8.24) meeting at 10.00 hrs in the Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub). This beautiful haven for wildlife has been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch is revealing a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife.
