SUMMARY:HMRC Volunteers Support Maghull’s Green Centre Restoration: find out how you can help.
DESCRIPTION:On Friday (28.6.24)\, a large group of brilliant HMRC volunteers spent another three hours with the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) volunteers\, to extend the astounding debris removal from the West polluted section of Rowlands Dell. Their ‘return’ represented a taxing but immensely satisfying ‘relief’ from their normal ‘taxing returns’\, for which we as a community are enormously grateful for their generosity and kindness. \nNext Up – Can you spare one hour\, without any commitment\, on Sunday (7.7.24) meeting at 09.30 in Rowlands Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub). This beautiful haven for wildlife has been treated as an open tip for decades\, where every inch is revealing a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. We hope to remove all the debris this summer and commence a huge programme of planting and rewilding in Autumn\, that will be healthy for wildlife and humans\, whilst ultimately preventing building on yet another perceived neglected green space. \n Main Tasks. \n\nSpreading a kindly donated mountain of woodchip courtesy of Paul Richards (Tree Surgeons) to temporarily suppress dominant weeds\, provide hydration and replace lost humus.\nShould time permit afterwards we will continue raking out the huge amounts of harmful to wildlife debris that has accumulated from over 30 years of sad neglect (eg vegetation\, rubble and litter)\, down the final part of the north slope.\n\nEquipment. All you will need are: \nSturdy boots\, garden gloves (essentials) \n\nGround ivy and debris removal: please bring litter picker\, garden fork\, rigid soil rake (essential) not a lawn rake\, to remove some of the embedded litter.\nIf you are interested in helping to remove the ground Ivy to enable us to access the debris beneath\, please bring a brush cutter/strimmer\, protective glasses.\n\nOverall\, our one-hour sessions over the last 35 consecutive weeks have resulted in collecting 230 bin bags of litter\, a huge and shameful array of polluting debris and tons of tree and wall damaging Ivy\, with multiple trips to the recycling centre. \nWe have received some wonderful feedback and are clearly seeing the difference every time we are there. \nA huge thank you once again for your generous support of our group\, you really are amazing and making such a massive difference to our community at so many levels. \nPictured: HMRC and FOMD volunteers \nLooking forward to seeing you. \nFriends of Maghull & District (FOMD) \nTogether Making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information and for any last-minute changes please check ‘Events’ at: www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment

SUMMARY:Hardy Volunteers Support Maghull’s Green Centre Restoration: can you help?
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday (7.7.24)\, a few Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) volunteers braved the torrential rain\, to spread a mountain of donated woodchip (courtesy of Paul Richards – local community orientated tree surgeon). Unbelievably\, the work was completed in one hour and will temporarily suppress the weeds and improve the bio hydrating humus following their previous removal alongside mountains of polluting debris and litter. A huge thank you to Peter\, Ros\, and Frank for all their hard work for this hugely beneficial community environmental project. \nNext Up – Can you spare one hour\, without any commitment\, on Saturday (13.7.24) meeting at 09.30 in Rowlands Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub). SUMMARY:New One-Hour Midweek FOMD Session (Parkbourn).
DESCRIPTION:Sorry for the short notice\, but we noticed that the weather was half decent tomorrow and wondered if anyone could spare one hour tomorrow morning at 930 hours behind Parkbourn Square at our first project. It’s become a little overgrown since we focused on the trees and Woodend most of this year. If you can make it you will need garden gloves\, secateurs small and large garden fork. \nUnbelievably\, we placed it on Google maps two months ago along with several – before and after pictures and Google informed us that it has received over 1000 hits already\, which is amazing\, so it would be nice to make it look more like the photographs again! \nMany Thanks\, \nFOMD \nTogether Making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information about this and other projects at: www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment

SUMMARY:Outstanding New and Old Volunteers at Maghull’s Rowlands Dell Green Centre Restoration: Can You Help Next for Only One Hour?
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday (13.7.24)\, old and new Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) volunteers continued with the green restoration work at Rowlands Dell. \nRemarkably\, the following work was undertaken: \n\nNorth Slope: the whole area was cut with a lawnmower following regrowth to enable continued access to the underlying polluting debris and litter.\n16 bin bags of rubbish was transported to the tip in one car load\, including two extra bin bags collected on the day.\nRubble debris was transported to the tip in two carloads.\nRegrowth of damaging tree Ivy was removed.\nFollowing four fantastic en masse sessions by the Scouts and HMRC staff we had multiple mounds of vegetation and rubble which required considerable work to relocate it all to two central pickup points for future removal. Courtesy of outstanding hard work from our new volunteers Rob and Dianne.\n\nPictured: A huge thank you to Christine\, Dave\, Diane (pictured with the North Slope in the background) and Colin\, Rob\, Diane and Frank (not pictured). Thanks also to Ross and Jill who undertook one hour clearing debris and vegetation in the west area in a mid-week session (10.7.24) they brilliantly organised. \nNext Up – Can you spare one hour\, without any commitment\, on Saturday (20.7.24) meeting at 09.30 in Rowlands Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub). SUMMARY:Maghull’s Seventh World Wonder: can you help for one hour!
DESCRIPTION:This 2008 transformed grot spot\, currently in need of some annual TLC\, is not the hanging Gardens of Babylon but home for the ‘hanging teapots of Maghull’ amongst many other attributes! The 21 funky teapots hanging from a fence are used as bug houses and bird boxes! \nThe Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) first of many community environmental transformations started at Parkbourn in Maghull in 2018\, which we recently highlighted on Google maps receiving over 1000 hits over two months. The area was transformed from an antisocial grot spot to a much-visited oasis\, but following some overdue completed weeding and hedge and shrub trimming last week\, we would welcome any volunteers for one hour only on Wednesday (31.7.24) at 09.30 hours\, simply to help spread some donated woodchip to replenish the path and outer border. \nEquipment: If you can make it\, you will need garden gloves. \nMore information at www.fomd.co.uk  including: (1) Events tab for everything about the meeting and (2) Projects tab for the project background. \nPictured: Many thanks to Jill\, Ros\, Rob (pictured) and Colin & Frank (not pictured)\, who continued last week (24.7.24) undertaking the following: \n\nWeeded the woodchip path and outer border\, with extra thanks to Rob for kindly taking the resulting two agricultural bags of weeds to the recycling centre.\nTrimmed the new rear dogwood hedge\, which is hiding the brutal railway fencing\, and trimmed and shaped the encroaching trees and shrubs.\nRepaired a bird box.\n\nThe outer border is starting to look a little more clearer\, with its four layers including (1) the rear dogwood hedge developing to cover the stark railings\, (2) in front there is a row of 72 white hydrangea cuttings blossoming\, and (3) in front of this there is a row of assorted plants\, whilst the (4) daffodils and bluebells that fringe the path have now finished blossoming. \nMany Thanks\, \nFOMD \nTogether Making Maghull a better place to live. \nMore information about this and other projects at: www.fomd.co.uk \nContact: admin@fomd.co.uk \n#fomdcic #Maghull #Environment
