Can you help with an unprecedented green transformation?

Venue & Tasks.

The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) need volunteers to meet at Rowlands Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub) for one hour on Saturday (21.6.25) at 09.30 hours, to:

  • Planting Donated shrubs
  • Sow grass seed where previous seeds have not taken.
  • Cut Car park hedge.
  • Continue bagging debris created from Yew tree planting
  • Weeding
  • Watering Yew Tree Hedge.

Equipment needed: sturdy boots, garden gloves, spade, and garden fork

Thank You to Joan, Diane (pictured) John, Meredith, John, Colin and Frank (not pictured), for last week’s session (14.6.25) who undertook the following:

  • Collected and Planted a 10 Foot Christmas Tree, kindly donated by Ann & Rob (Netherton) and transported by Sarah (Saxon Tree Services, who kindly donated a small load of wood chippings also – pictured). This is a challenging time to plant this large tree outside the tree planting season but fingers crossed (pictured).
  • Planted approximately 18 laurel shrubs, kindly and amazingly donated by Helen and John following the sad closure of Lydiate’s Windmill Nursery, which was a small part of a large donation this week (full thank you to be provided later). It also helped to replace three shrubs that had not survived and were recycled to form twig heaps for wildlife.
  • Our TCV partner volunteers are continuing to make great progress with the Wishing Well (pictured) which is one of two water features being created from a successful grant application to Morrisons.

Urgent  Crowdfunding Donations for Rowlands Dell.

We need to raise £8774 before October (129 days!), to pay for a lower connecting path (creating a circular health and wellness walk) and a huge array of much-needed woodland plants.

To attract potential match funding we have established a new (5.6.25) donation page (15.6.25, £1592 raised) which is organised by Sefton Council and the National crowdfunding organisation (Spacehive). Our chances of receiving match funding can be enhanced by your involvement to demonstrate community support in the form of donations (minimum £2), ‘likes’ and ‘positive comments’.

Please encourage everyone you know to visit https://www.spacehive.com/rowlandsdell and donate any amount, ‘like’ and post a positive comment. The website also has a short introductory video

Background to Rowlands Dell.

This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 266 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris.

In Stage II (completed in November), with the help our NHS landowner partners we successfully obtained health and wellness grant (Maghull’s largest green investment) to fund an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations.  These features provided accessibility for the whole community and included: accessible path, viewing/picnic area, sunken garden, bins, 10,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points, bug and bird boxes, and a dry waterfall feature).

We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,

FOMD

Together making Maghull a better place to live.
