Going Wild in the Centre of Maghull!
16 August @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am
| FreeLast week we created a bug hotel that needs populating with pictured bug friendly materials (just pop down any time with your children to insert your useful materials) and check out the neighbouring money log (pictured). Whilst this week the evolving bog garden (pictured – basically a pond with holes in that will be a magnet for wildlife) is starting to take shape and will look more natural over time. We have left the neighbouring area wild as a haven for wildlife whilst developing/disturbing other areas.
In the meantime, the huge Wishing Well is also taking shape (pictured) with support timber for the roof being added by our partners – The Conservation Volunteers (TCV). We were also delighted, after many weeks, to finish planting hundreds of donated shrubs courtesy of the sadly closed Windmill Nurseries.
One Hour Volunteer Opportunities below.
We have regular welcoming multi-award-winning one-hour sessions you can just drop into any time without any commitment. No special skills needed just a healthy dose of enthusiasm.

Crowdfunding Donations Needed for Rowlands Dell.
Our second milestone has just been achieved! After the last two successful months achieving our planned 50% target, we want to achieve our 75% target in August with a little help from you.
Currently (14.8.25) we have 120 donors who have pledged £5673 which is 64% of our £8,767 goal. To achieve the August 75% target of £6575 we now need to raise £902!
Overall, we need to raise £8767 before October (68 days!), to pay for a lower connecting path (creating a circular health and wellness walk) and a huge array of much-needed woodland plants.
To attract substantial match funding, we need your kind support on our crowdfunding webpage in the form of donations (minimum £2), ‘likes’, ‘positive comments’ and please share, as positive community engagement is a measure that can trigger match funding, involving up to 40% of our target! The website also has a short introductory video.

Background to Rowlands Dell.
This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 300 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris.
In Stage II (completed in November), with the help our NHS landowner partners we successfully obtained health and wellness grant (Maghull’s largest green investment) to fund an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations. These features provided accessibility for the whole community and included: accessible path, viewing/picnic area, sunken garden, bins, 10,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points, bug and bird boxes, and a dry waterfall feature).
We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help.
Many Thanks and Best Wishes,
FOMD
