Award-winning horticulturist Nikki Fennah and her husband Ian opened their beautiful and inspiring garden to the public to raise charitable funds for Maghull’s largest environmental project at Rowlands Dell organised by the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD). The warmth, kindness and generosity from our community was incredible and you unbelievably raised £1145, bringing our crowdfunding total to 63% of our October target.

What a beautiful day – from Nikki and Ian’s beautiful inspiring garden, weather, the delicious home-made cakes, the generous kindred spirited visitors and of course our lovely team (Michelle, Joan, Linda Jill, Joanne (B), Joanne (M), Frank with Nikki & Ian 1-2 R in main picture) who again kindly contributed above and beyond – selling cakes and refreshments, raffle tickets and plants, helping with entrance payments, welcomes, and spreading the word about our crowdfunding and future charity concert (19.9.25 – see poster).

Our trepidation about visitor numbers being reduced because of difficulties networking were unfounded and according to Nikki and Ian it was probably one of the most successful open garden events they have hosted.

Consequently, we are absolutely indebted to Ian and Nikki for this incredible opportunity that was an absolute joy to be part of. A heartfelt thank you from all of us for this remarkable achievement which is beyond our wildest expectations. A small token of our appreciation will be winging its way to Nikki and Ian this week.

An additional thank you to:

  • The delicious cake makers
  • Jill for generously donating her £40 float.
  • Joan for organising the raffle with Diane and for creating the poster at short notice

Wishing you all lots of happiness and best wishes,

FOMD

Crowdfunding Donations Needed for Rowlands Dell.

After the last two successful months we have amazingly achieved our planned 50% target, and now working towards our 75% target in August with a little help from you!

Currently (12.8.25) we have 114 donors who have pledged £5583 which is 63% of our £8,766 goal. To achieve the August 75% target of £6574 we now need to raise £991!

Overall, we need to raise £8766 before October (70 days!), to pay for a lower connecting path (creating a circular health and wellness walk) and a huge array of much-needed woodland plants.

To attract substantial match funding we need your kind support on our crowdfunding webpage in the form of donations (minimum £2), ‘likes’,  ‘positive comments’ and please share, as positive community engagement is a measure that can trigger match funding, involving up to 40% of our target! The website also has a short introductory video.

Background to Rowlands Dell.

This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 300 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris.

In Stage II (completed in November), with the help our NHS landowner partners we successfully obtained health and wellness grant (Maghull’s largest green investment) to fund an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations.  These features provided accessibility for the whole community and included: accessible path, viewing/picnic area, sunken garden, bins, 10,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points, bug and bird boxes, and a dry waterfall feature).

We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,

FOMD
