Important Request to Participate in Maghull Flooding Research.

Maghull has been blighted with increasing flooding problems, perhaps compounded by increasing housebuilding and other causes. Consequently, FOMD has been contacted to help initiate important research by the University of Liverpool.

No flooding knowledge/experience is required at this first stage of the research as it will initially focus on the level of understanding by the community.

Can you spare an invaluable 90 minutes for a group research conversation facilitated by the University of Liverpool and Mersey Forest, in Maghull (venue TBC) Tuesday 19th May, Time (TBC).

As you will know, Maghull has serious flooding issues in recent years, so it is brilliant that the University and others are keen to start understanding some of the main issues.

Please find an information sheet attached below and how to book a place.

CONVERSE – Flooding and your Community

Introduction.

The University of Liverpool, The Mersey Forest and Faiths4Change would like to invite people from the local community to take part in a 90-minute workshop to look at how flooding has affected you and your community and to better understand public opinions of flooding and what should be done.

The workshop will take place on the 19.5.26, 17-00/22.00hrs, Maghull all details yet to be confirmed.

Rationale.

This workshop is part of a larger research project called CONVERSE that is looking to bring scientists and local communities together to understand better how natural flood management across the River Alt catchment is working, its impact on flood risk and the other potential social and ecological benefits it may bring.

This initial workshop will help us better understand how flooding has affected your community, to hear about your own personal experiences of flooding and gain and insight into what people understand of Natural Flood Management (NBI). In this initial stage of the project, we are keen to build relationships, get to know what’s going on in the area and work with the organisations and communities already active here to align our research with their priorities.

To book your place please email Dave Armson (The Mersey Forest) on dave.armson@merseyforest.org.uk

Following on this initial workshop, you will be offered the opportunity to continue researching flooding. We would hope that you would be willing to contribute to researching flooding and look at ways to empower you and your community to better understand flooding and to look at possible ways to support scientist make decisions about what should be done about flooding in your area.  This invite to continue working with us will be discussed further at the above workshop.

Huge thanks for helping to make a positive difference,
