As part of FOMD’s Rowlands Dell Community NHS health and wellness green transformation project we have installed the ‘Love Is All You Need’ installation on Friday (6.3.26) to highlight how love and kindness can enhance community and nature exemplified throughout this ongoing project.

We would like to thank:

  • Mike Pollard (retired joiner) for cutting out our design into the two eight-foot sleepers.
  • Ken Hughes (stonemason) for kindly drilling and fixing the wooden bodies to the rock heads, securing the stone heart and cementing in situ.
  • Lorraine Pierce for donating the slate chippings for the base when she donated a beautiful Christmas tree.

This modest public art follows on from several Maghull installations commencing with the first ever in 2018 and comprise of:

  • Compassion in Conflict (2018): commemorating Maghull’s role in providing the first treatment for WW1 shellshock, current PTSD, and an ever-present reminder to be compassionate.

  • Rainbow the Rhinoceros (2021): highlighting endangered wildlife and the importance of recycling.

  • Keep Sea Plastic Free (2022): schoolchildren utilised community donated plastic bottle tops from the recycling rhinoceros to create stunning mosaics to highlight plastic pollution.

  • Community Kindness (2023) the community and school children renovated a lambanana mounted on a plinth surrounded by a rockery of plants and plaques highlighting community kindness during and after the pandemic.

  • The Neuro Diversity Archway (2025): highlighting the ‘overarching’ term of neurodiversity and its sub- classifications that will signpost understanding and resources.

  • ‘Well’ness (2026): a wishing well to promote mindfulness next to the Medical Centre overlooking Rowlands Dell NHS Health and Wellness green transformation project.

Background and Exciting Developments at Rowlands Dell.

This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 300 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris (2024).

In Stage II (November 2024), with the help of our NHS landowner partners we successfully obtained a health and wellness grant (Maghull’s largest green investment) to fund an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations. These features provided accessibility for the whole community and included: accessible path, viewing/picnic area, sunken garden, bins, 10,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points, bug and bird boxes, and a dry waterfall feature). A Morrisons grant has enabled us to create the ongoing bog garden and wishing well.

We now need your help throughout 2026 for funding and planting to complete a beautiful restorative legacy haven.

All the Best,

Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD)

Together making Maghull a better place to live.
