Please can you help at Maghull’s Parkbourn Wildflower Project?
20 January @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am
| FreePlease can you help to give the Parkbourn Wildflower Garden its annual TLC with a quick one hour tidy up involving some weeding,
Venue The Parkbourn Project is a little tricky to find. It is situated on the rear service road of (45) Parkbourn Square (L31 1JD off Park Lane), also listed on Google maps.
Time. Meeting for one hour on Tuesday 20.1.26, at 09:30 hours.
Tasks.
- We will be focusing on simple but important weeding in the small outer border that has four layers including (1) the rear dogwood hedge is developing to cover the stark railings, (2) in front there is a row of 72 white hydrangea cuttings blossoming, and (3) in front of this there is a row of assorted plants, whilst the (4) daffodils and bluebells that fringe the path
Equipment: You will need garden gloves, sturdy boots, large or small garden fork and secateurs.
Thank You to Colin, Jill (pictured) and Frank who volunteered at Parkbourn on Thursday (15.1.26), to continue weeding the outer border, mowed and removed vegetation from the triangular wildflower border and finished off with laying a semipermeable membrane to suppress competitive weeds and grasses to re-establish the wildflowers. We have tried several strategies over the years to develop and sustain the wildflowers with occasional success, but we are suppressing vegetation with a donated membrane before obtaining tons of wildflower promoting grit sand membrane. If successful we hope to use same method on our other projects.

Lots more volunteer opportunities will be coming up soon, so please keep an eye on our events calendar.
