The talented local Madukes Ukulele Band offered a free charity concert that they performed brilliantly on Saturday (20.9.25), galvanising a remarkable array of altruistic support from our community to help raise £1230 towards Maghull’s largest green volunteer project at Rowlands Dell. We are immensely grateful for everyone’s support and feel so fortunate to be part of such a kind community and would like to thank the following:

The Madukes.

We really can’t thank Christina and Diane (B) enough for organising the concert and the whole band for their immense kindness in giving so much of their talented time for the good of the whole community, on top of all the other unbelievable community work they undertake as a group and individually.

They performed two sets on the night, of immaculately performed contemporary songs (see list) that had the 100-capacity audience dancing and singing, providing such a great experience that it filled every age to the brim with happiness.

The evening was gratefully compered warmly throughout by Ken Hughes (ex-mayor). Thank you to Diane (H), the many FOMD volunteers, and prize donors, who successfully organised fundraising games on the night and the two-month long raffle which was drawn on the night. 10 of the raffle prize winners were given on the night and we will contact the remaining 15 next week.

Ian Forrest (MCA and Great Mogul PH)

Ian is the manager of the Maghull Community Association (MCA venue) and the Great Mogul PH who we would like to convey a huge thank you to – for the incredible free use of the venue and if that wasn’t enough he kindly donated a delicious meal for two at the Great Moghul and a bottle of wine.

Raffle Prize Donors.

We are also immensely grateful to all the 25 donors comprising of businesses individuals and groups (full list attached) for their incredible generosity in supporting our community cause. We will be contacting you all to say thank you ASAP.

The Wider Community.

Thank you all so much for buying tickets to attend, buying raffle tickets, donations and overall words of motivational support. You are amazing.

DONATIONS NEEDED PLEASE!

In the meantime, we really need your support to boost our crowdfunding donations to enable the completion of this fantastic community project at Rowlands Dell.

We need to raise funds to pay for lower and upper connecting paths (creating a circular health and wellness walk) and a huge array of much-needed woodland plants.

  • Crowdfunding Campaign. So far, with your help, we have raised enough money for one path extension (£7,600) but we are hoping to raise another £7000 for another crucial connecting path and much-needed large-scale woodland shrubs. Please donate online at Donate or with cash at the Hare & Hounds PH, Morrisons, Esso Petrol Station.

Background to Rowlands Dell.

This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 300 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris.

In Stage II (completed in November), with the help of our NHS landowner partners we successfully obtained a health and wellness grant (Maghull’s largest green investment) to fund an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations. These features provided accessibility for the whole community and included: accessible path, viewing/picnic area, sunken garden, bins, 10,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points, bug and bird boxes, and a dry waterfall feature). A Morrisons grant has enabled us to create the ongoing bog garden and wishing well.

We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help.

Best Wishes,

Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD)

Together making Maghull a better place to live.
