We have welcoming regular multi-award-winning one-hour sessions you can just drop into any time. No special skills needed just a healthy dose of enthusiasm.

Venue & Tasks.

The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) need volunteers to meet at Rowlands Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub) for one hour on Wednesday (9.8.25) at 09.30 hours, to:

• Plant Donated shrubs.
• Sow grass seed where previous seeds have not taken.
• Cut Car park hedge.
• Weeding
• Complete bug hotel construction.
• Emptying three bins
• Grass Cutting

Equipment needed: sturdy boots, garden gloves, spade, and garden fork

Thank You to:  Linda, Jill, Joanne (pictured), Frank, Colin, Joe (and his carer Peter (not pictured), for last Wednesdays session (6.8.25) who undertook the following:

• Planted and watered in countless donated Pyracanthas, box shrubs, laurels (pictured) in large sloped upper border and path junctions (Linda, Joanne, Jill, Colin) and Joe and Peter for soaking the potted plants in the holding area.
• Bug hotel construction continued with chimney attached to roof (Steve) and bug friendly bricks and logs inserted (Frank).
• Free fresh organic fruit and vegetables were kindly given out to all the volunteers by Colin, our very own expert allotmenteer sometimes known as Monty Col! (vegetables pictured)

Crowdfunding Donations Needed for Rowlands Dell.

Our second milestone has just been achieved! July is the second month of four, aiming for a 25% monthly target, currently with 111 donors who have pledged £4,453 which is 50% of our £8,773 goal. To achieve the August 75% target of £6580 we now need to raise £2127!

We need to raise £8772 before October (76 days!), to pay for a lower connecting path (creating a circular health and wellness walk) and a huge array of much-needed woodland plants.

To attract substantial match funding we need your kind support on our crowdfunding webpage in the form of donations (minimum £2), ‘likes’,  ‘positive comments’ and please share, as positive community engagement is a measure that can trigger match funding, involving up to 40% of our target! Background to Rowlands Dell.

This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 300 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris.

In Stage II (completed in November), with the help our NHS landowner partners we successfully obtained health and wellness grant (Maghull’s largest green investment) to fund an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations.  These features provided accessibility for the whole community and included: accessible path, viewing/picnic area, sunken garden, bins, 10,000 bulbs and planting at small junction points, bug and bird boxes, and a dry waterfall feature).

We are now engaging in stage three to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help.
